On Tuesday, the Borno State Police Command confirmed the tragic death of Prof. Ruth Wazis, a former Head of the Department of Business Management at the University of Maiduguri.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday, has left the university community in deep mourning.
According to Police Commissioner Yusuf Lawal, the accident happened at Prof. Wazis’ residence while she was parking her car in the garage. An unexpected mechanical malfunction caused the vehicle to suddenly accelerate, leading to the unfortunate incident.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported that the sudden movement of the car knocked Prof. Wazis to the ground, causing severe injuries to her chest.
Despite the immediate efforts of her family to rush her to the hospital, Prof. Wazis succumbed to her injuries before medical assistance could be fully administered.
Lawal noted that her remains were promptly transported to the hospital by her family members following the accident.
The University of Maiduguri community is devastated by the loss of Wazis, who was a distinguished academic leader and a beloved figure within the institution. Her passing marks a significant loss for both the university and the broader academic community.
