UniAbuja appoints first female acting VC

The University of Abuja has marked a significant milestone with the appointment of Professor Aisha Sani Maikudi as its first female acting vice-chancellor.

The announcement came following the inaugural meeting of the 10th Governing Council, chaired by Air Vice-Marshal Saddiq Ismaila Kaita (Rtd), held on Friday, July 5th, 2024.

Maikudi, a professor of International Law and former deputy vice-chancellor of academics, was recommended for the role by the University Senate during its 185th Regular meeting on June 26th, 2024. Her appointment adheres to the statutory provisions outlined in Section 4, subsection (4b) of the University of Abuja Acts, and section 5(13) of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Amendment) Act 2003.

In her inaugural address, Professor Maikudi expressed her gratitude and outlined her vision for the university’s future.

“As we embark on this new journey together, I urge each member of the Governing Council to bring their wealth of experience, expertise, and passion to bear in fulfilling our collective mission. Your leadership and vision are crucial in guiding our university through these challenging times and towards a future of sustained growth and excellence,” she stated.

She further emphasized the importance of collaboration, “Let us embrace this opportunity to work collaboratively and tirelessly towards realizing the full potential of the University of Abuja. Let us build on our past achievements, address our current challenges, and create a brighter future for our institution and all its stakeholders.”

This appointment is seen as a pivotal moment for the University of Abuja, signaling a commitment to diversity and excellence in leadership. The university community and stakeholders are optimistic about the new administration’s potential to drive significant advancements in academic and administrative spheres.
