The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) in Igbariam, Anambra State, has reported an impressive profit of over 1.5 million naira from vegetable sales in just three months.
This announcement was made by the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, during the unveiling of the university’s organizational review report at the Senate Chambers on Tuesday.
Prof. Omenugha articulated a bold vision for COOU, aiming to position the institution as a premier educational hub in the South East and beyond.
“Our goal is to transform this University into a leading educational institution, not just a factory for producing graduates,” she stated, highlighting the need for a shift towards a private sector mentality to foster growth and innovation.
The VC expressed her commitment to exploring diverse avenues for generating revenue, particularly through agricultural initiatives. She underscored the importance of hard work and dedication, encouraging university staff to adhere to regulations that enhance service delivery and overall performance.
In addition, Prof. Omenugha spotlighted the TETFUND’S Institutional Based Research (IBR) program, urging recipients to capitalize on this opportunity by aiming for publications in esteemed global journals.
With an eye on both academic excellence and financial sustainability, Prof. Omenugha assured university staff that their welfare remains a priority as the management seeks to improve operational efficiency.
Ojukwu University is not only cultivating vegetables but is also sowing the seeds for a thriving future in education and agriculture.
