The Ekiti State Government has temporarily closed Ayo Fasanmi Model College in Ado-Ekiti following concerns over structural defects in the school’s buildings, which pose a threat to the safety of students and staff.
The closure, announced in a statement by the state Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, on Thursday, is aimed at ensuring the safety of all students and teachers pending urgent renovations.
Olatunbosun reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to the safety and well-being of school-age children across the state.
He emphasised that the provision of a conducive learning environment remains a top priority.
“The safety of our children is paramount. We have identified some defects in the building structure of Ayo Fasanmi Model College, and we are taking immediate steps to address these issues.
“The school will remain closed until the necessary renovations are completed to ensure it is safe for academic activities.”
The commissioner revealed that the government was working closely with the State Universal Basic Education Board to expedite the renovation process.
He also mentioned that arrangements have been made to relocate affected students to alternative facilities to prevent any disruption in their education.
“We are collaborating with SUBEB to fast-track the repairs, and in the meantime, students will be moved to alternative schools so that their studies are not interrupted,” Olatunbosun added.
In a direct appeal to parents and guardians, Olatunbosun called for patience and understanding, assuring them that all necessary actions are being taken to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
“We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but I want to assure parents that we are leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that the students do not suffer unduly. The school will be reopened as soon as it is safe to do so,” he said.
