Sen. Ibrahim Lamido of the All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Sokoto-East has awarded full scholarships to 42 deserving students.
These scholarships will enable the students to pursue medical and allied science courses in India, marking a significant stride towards accessible education for the underprivileged.
The announcement was made during a ceremony in Sokoto, where letters of award were presented to the successful candidates. Representing Sen. Lamido, Dr. Umar Namahe emphasized the comprehensive nature of the scholarships: “The students will be on full scholarship, as their bills covering; visa, air tickets, tuition fees, feeding, accommodation, and monthly stipends for the period of two years have already been settled.”
This initiative is part of a broader scheme providing 100 undergraduate and postgraduate foreign scholarships, ensuring that each beneficiary has passed rigorous integrity and competency evaluations, including health and drug tests. The students are set to study diverse fields such as Medicine, Allied Sciences, Engineering, and Robotics at prestigious Indian universities.
Mu’azu Shamaki, during his address, highlighted the transformative impact of Sen. Lamido’s gesture: “The lawmaker’s gesture has opened a new chapter of positive vision that created affordable and accessible education for his constituents.”
This move signifies a commitment to enhancing education and fostering professionalism within Sokoto East Senatorial District.
The selection process saw candidates chosen from eight local government areas, underscoring a commitment to fostering a brighter future for the younger generation.
“We concentrate our efforts to ensure a brighter future for the youth by providing opportunities in education, business skills empowerment, and agricultural programmes among others,” Shamaki noted.
This philanthropic effort is devoid of political motives, focusing instead on genuine empowerment and aligning with the APC’s vision of quality education, poverty eradication, and self-reliance. Shamaki urged the students to be disciplined and serve as ambassadors for their state and nation.
Further, the initiative extends beyond foreign scholarships. Sen. Lamido has also provided JAMB forms, paid registration fees for tertiary education students, and offered stipends to secondary schools. His support reaches over 2,000 students nationwide, alongside empowering youth and women with business tools and funding.
Describing Lamido as a “role model, change agent, and leader with a passion for education,” Shamaki called on other political figures and affluent Nigerians to emulate such impactful efforts.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the parents, Isa Abdullahi-Gago commended Sen. Lamido’s generosity and urged students to focus on their studies and eventually support others. Sanusi Abubakar, a scholarship recipient, expressed his commitment to honoring the opportunity, stating, “I promise to justify the confidence reposed in me.”
