Vice Chancellor of Karl Kumm University (KKU) Vom, Jos, Plateau State, Prof. Audu Gambo, has advocated an increase in funding for the Nigerian Police Force to upgrade the capacity of the institution to effectively carry out its constitutional role as the leading agency for internal security operations.
The protocol and information officer, Mr. Bulus Gambo, in a statement, quoted the Vice Chancellor decrying the poor funding of the police, stressing that it has made it difficult for the force to respond to the growing threat to internal security in the state and the country.
Professor Gambo made the statement when the new Vom Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Haruna Adamu, paid him a courtesy call in his office.
He noted that the police force is capable of combating the current security threats bedeviling the country if adequate and moderated.
Gambo stressed that the federal government should be sensitive to the needs of the police and other security agencies but not focus exclusively on the military alone.
The DPO thanked the Vice Chancellor for showing interest in the peace of the state and the country.
He appealed to the vice chancellor and his management to join hands with the police to enhance the security of the university.
