Nigeria is set to establish Africa’s first university dedicated exclusively to artificial intelligence (AI) in Epe, Lagos. Named Wini Institution, the university aims to equip young Nigerians with advanced AI skills, positioning the country as a global leader in technology innovation.
Inspired by Qatar’s first AI-focused university, Wini Institution seeks to address unemployment and foster a thriving tech community in Africa. The project, which began in 2016, recently received approval from Nigeria’s National University Commission (NUC).
The vision for Wini Institution is to create a hub for training top-tier academics and students in AI and quantum computing, shaping innovators who will actively contribute to the global AI landscape. The institution aims to transform Lagos into Africa’s Silicon Valley, where technology and innovation drive economic growth.
Offering cutting-edge programmes in AI, blockchain, cloud computing, and machine learning, Wini Institution is poised to empower students to lead in an AI-driven world, playing a pivotal role in transforming African education and the tech industry.
