Activist cum humanitarian journalist, Chidiebube Okeoma, has attracted secondary school scholarships and accommodation for 12 -year-old Amarachi Emmanuel and her elder sibling, Comfort Emmanuel.

Okeoma had in October rescued the minors from their stepmother, who allegedly battered them for cooking rice without her permission.

Their stepmother, who was arrested and remanded in Owerri Correctional Centre, is currently being prosecuted in the Owerri Magistrate Court by the state office of the Commissioner of Police.

On Tuesday, Okeoma, the founder and president of Stand For Humanity Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, announced that the Tendersouls Humanitarian Foundation had awarded the two girls scholarships.

Okeoma disclosed that Amarachi and Comfort were last Friday enrolled at Amazing Grace International Secondary School, located in the Orji axis of Owerri, the state capital.

The journalist disclosed that he and his team went with Dr Grace Chukwukere, the founder of Tendersouls Humanitarian Foundation to the school on Friday to enrol the children.

He informed that apart from paying 100 per cent of the fees, the foundation bought back-to-school materials, sanitary and toiletries items for the kids.

Okeoma said that the Tendersouls Humanitarian Foundation had undertaken the responsibility of seeing the children through secondary school education.

The journalist also informed that he had also secured an apartment in Owerri for the kids, their father and their kid brother.

Okeoma told South-East PUNCH that a member of the House of Representatives, Chike Okafor, gave him money to secure the apartment for the kids.

He added that through the help of some compassionate Nigerians, he had been able to furnish the apartment for the children.

He said that the idea was to show the children love and care so that they would be useful in life.

Okeoma said, “We have been able to secure secondary school education scholarships for Amarachi and Comfort. This is courtesy of the Tendersouls Humanitarian Foundation led by Dr Grace Chukwukere.

“They paid 100 per cent of the fees and bought back-to-school materials and toiletries for the kids. They will undertake the responsibility till they are through with secondary school education. May God bless them.

“Through the help of a member of the House of Representatives, Chike Okafor, my foundation, Stand for Humanity Foundation, secured an apartment for them. Some compassionate Nigerians also assisted us and we were able to furnish the apartment.

“The idea is to assist the children to become useful in life. We are telling them that humanity is kind and not wicked. We will follow up on the children’s growth to ensure that they become great in life.”
