Applications are now open for the TWAS Fellowships for Research and Advanced Training 2024/2025, offering a unique opportunity for young scientists from developing countries to enhance their research capabilities.
These fellowships, funded by The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), aim to support promising scientists by allowing them to spend three to 12 months at a research institution in a developing country other than their own. By fostering international collaboration and exposure, the program seeks to bolster the research expertise of early-career scientists.
Benefits:
The TWAS Fellowship provides a comprehensive package designed to ease the financial burden on young researchers. The program covers international low-cost airfare to the host country, alongside a contribution towards subsistence costs, up to a maximum of USD $300 per month. While TWAS covers these essential expenses, the host institution is expected to provide accommodation, meals, and access to research facilities, ensuring that fellows can fully focus on their scientific work without worrying about logistical cokncerns.
Eligibility:
To qualify for the fellowship, applicants must be young scientists holding at least an MSc or an equivalent degree. The program is open to researchers working in any area of the natural sciences, provided they are citizens of a developing country and are employed by a research institution in a developing country. Although there is no age limit, the program gives preference to early-career scientists and those from Least Developed Countries (LDCs), aiming to support those who stand to benefit most from this international experience.
Application process:
The application process for the TWAS Fellowships is conducted online. Interested candidates must complete the online application form, ensuring that all required documentation is uploaded by the specified deadline. The lists of potential host institutions, categorized by field, are available for reference, although applicants are free to choose institutions outside these lists as long as they are located in a developing country. However, it is important to note that institutes within the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), China, are not eligible as host institutions under this fellowship program. APPLY HERE.
Application deadline: October 7, 2024.
