The Borno government has announced that it will sponsor indigent students to study Chinese language, medicine (MBBS), and engineering in China.
This initiative was revealed by the Executive Secretary of the Borno Scholarship Board, Mallam Bala Isa, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.
Under this program, students who wish to study the Chinese language will have their expenses covered by the Borno government. Additionally, Governor Babagana Zulum has approved scholarships for undergraduate courses in medicine and engineering at reputable institutions in China.
To be eligible for the Chinese language program, applicants must have achieved excellent results in arts subjects. For medicine and engineering, candidates must pass English, mathematics, biology, chemistry, and physics. A minimum of 75% in WAEC for MBBS and 65% in WAEC for engineering is required. Detailed calculation guidelines for percentage calculation can be found on the scholarship website, www.scholarship.bo.gov.ng.
The application portal will remain open until August 15, and interested applicants should be between 18 and 25 years old. This initiative aims to provide deserving students with the opportunity to gain valuable skills and knowledge in these fields, ultimately contributing to the development of Borno state and fostering stronger ties between Nigeria and China.
By offering these scholarships, the Borno government recognises the importance of international education and the potential benefits it can bring to individuals and the community at large. This initiative not only supports the educational aspirations of students but also enhances cultural understanding and opens doors to future collaborations between Nigeria and China.
