British Council offers research fellowships at University of Edinburgh for 2025

The British Council has unveiled its plans to commemorate its 90th anniversary with a special research partnership with the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) at the University of Edinburgh. As part of this initiative, two 12-month research fellowships are being offered for 2025.

The British Council has unveiled its plans to commemorate its 90th anniversary with a special research partnership with the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) at the University of Edinburgh. As part of this initiative, two 12-month research fellowships are being offered for 2025.

Benefits:
Each fellowship provides a unique opportunity for early-career researchers to deepen their academic pursuits and engage in knowledge exchange. Fellows will spend the first ten months at IASH in Edinburgh, collaborating with a diverse cohort of scholars and gaining access to the university’s extensive resources.

Eligibility:
The fellowships are open to postdoctoral researchers within seven years of completing their PhDs. Applicants must be from ODA recipient countries where the British Council operates, indicating a focus on supporting academic talent from regions with significant development needs. They should also demonstrate the qualifications and potential to conduct advanced research at IASH.

Application process:
In addition to a completed application form, candidates must submit a cover letter detailing how the fellowship aligns with their research goals and the British Council’s objectives for the program. Applicants must also arrange for two to three confidential references to support their applications. One of these references must confirm the successful viva (defense) and final examination of the applicant’s PhD thesis and should be send to Here
