A microfinance institution, Grooming Centre, has said it will give N20m research grants to 100 undergraduates and 50 postgraduate final-year students in any of the public and private universities in the country.

A statement by the firm stated that the money would be given to students who are presently carrying out their research studies in the areas of microfinance, rural development, inclusive finance, social enterprise, MSME, and women in development.

The research study and the grants are being managed by the Center for Research in Enterprise and Action in Management.

The non-refundable annual grants in its fifth edition, will support the research projects of the intended beneficiaries without status considerations.

Head of Project, Grooming Centre Nigeria, Mr Egulefu Chikezie, explained that submission would open on the 26th of June 2023 and close on the 18th of August 2023.

He explained that the focus of the research study must be relevant to the Nigerian context, practical, innovative and should be capable of promoting any of the above areas of interest, in the Nigerian space.

“The applicant must be either a student at the postgraduate or undergraduate level in a Nigerian tertiary institution whose research study is in the area listed above.”

Giving more insight into the scheme, Chief Operating Officer, CREM, Mr Clifford Onyeike, said the research must show a high level of originality and convincing target results must be data-driven, applicants must have to, among others submit their research concept between 10 and 25 pages and also be ready to submit final soft copies of their projects when completed.

“The applicant must be a student at a NUC/NBTE-approved Nigerian university or polytechnic. The applicant must submit a written recommendation from his/her project supervisor.”
