The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, has praised the management of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund for its “developmental role in advancing educational infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning in the country.”
The governor made this statement during the 2024 TETFund Management Retreat held in Calabar, Cross River State.
Represented by his deputy, Peter Odey, Governor Otu emphasised the indispensable impact of TETFund’s interventions, stating that “higher education in the country cannot thrive without TETFund.”
He also expressed concerns about how university education would fare without the Fund’s support.
The governor urged TETFund to use the retreat as an opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to enhancing higher education and ensuring that Nigerian institutions rank among the best on the continent.
He further reiterated the state government’s dedication to partnering with the Fund to improve education in Cross River State.
In his remarks, TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Sonny Echono, highlighted the fund’s efforts to reform and enhance its interventions.
He noted that, in collaboration with the Board and the Minister of Education, TETFund had become more responsive to the needs of students, scholars, and other stakeholders in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s expectations.
