The Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, has urged the 70 beneficiaries of his foreign scholarship scheme to be nation’s good ambassadors and be ready to return and contribute to national development upon graduation.

During a farewell ceremony on Sunday at at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport he emphasised the importance of education in developing human capital, particularly in the northern part of the country.

The beneficiaries, who received admission letters on September 9, 2024, are heading to reputable institutions in India to pursue higher degrees in Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity and Robotics Science.

Jibrin gifted each beneficiary $200 and announced that N30m would be shared among them, courtesy of contributions from well-wishers.

This is in addition to the provision of accommodation, tuition and other logistics necessary for them to excel in their studies.

The beneficiaries, comprising 65 males and five females from Kano State’s three senatorial districts, were selected based on merit.

The lawmaker urged them to be good ambassadors of the state and Nigeria, study hard and focus on becoming self-employed upon their return.

The scholarship programme is an initiative of the Barau I. Jibrin Foundation, which aims to support the development of education in the northern Nigeria.
