Seventeen emerging media professionals from Edugist, TVC, Agidigbo FM, Nigeria updates, others have participated in disability and inclusion reporting organised by The Africa Foundation for Young Media Professionals (AFYMP) in the esteemed University of Ibadan, Conference center.

In a pioneering blend of physical and virtual engagement, the training sought to amplify the voices of those often marginalised in society, especially the physically and mentally challenged individuals.

The training emphasized the importance of adhering to proper reporting guidelines and urged media practitioners to combat the stigmatization of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) across Africa.

Mr. Yinka Olaito, the visionary Executive Director of AFYMP, underscored the imperative of equipping participants with robust guidelines for navigating the nuanced terrain of disability and inclusion reporting. With a compelling discourse on “Inclusion in the Newsroom,”

Yinka articulated the pivotal role of the media in shaping societal perceptions and advocated for an end to the silence surrounding disability issues.

Dr. Aderemi Tosin illuminated the pivotal role of data in illuminating the narratives of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), emphasizing the urgent need to dismantle barriers hindering their full societal participation.

Meanwhile, Treasures Uchegbu delved into the transformative power of media collaboration and partnerships with PWDs organizations, heralding a shift from mere awareness to actionable inclusivity.

Dr. Aderemi Tosin during her presentation emphasized the crucial role of data-driven reporting, while Treasures Uchegbu underscored the significance of media collaboration with PWDs organizations.

Through this innovative initiative, AFYMP catalyses a new wave of and inclusive storytelling, where every voice, irrespective of ability, finds resonance and representation in the media landscape.

The overarching goal of the initiative is to amplify the voices of marginalised communities and foster inclusivity in media coverage.
