The Federal Ministry of Education has announced that Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates who initially pursued their Ordinary National Diploma (OND) on a part-time basis but later transitioned to a full-time HND program are now eligible for mobilization into the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, made this known in a statement signed by Boriowo Folasade Director, Press & Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education on Friday March 21, 2025.
The statement emphasized the government’s commitment to equity, fairness, and inclusivity in the nation’s education system.
“Under this new directive, full-time HND graduates who transitioned from part-time OND to a full-time HND are now eligible for NYSC mobilization,” the statement reads.
However, the Ministry clarified that individuals who completed both OND and HND through part-time programs remain ineligible for NYSC service.
To facilitate the smooth implementation of this directive, the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has been tasked with expediting the collation of eligible graduates’ data. Additionally, a circular has been sent to all Rectors of Polytechnics, instructing them to upload relevant graduate records onto the newly established HND admission portal.
The NBTE portal will now serve as the official database for determining NYSC eligibility, addressing past discrepancies related to admission records.
Dr. Alausa encouraged all eligible full-time HND graduates to take advantage of this opportunity, reaffirming the Federal Government’s commitment to providing equal opportunities for all qualified Nigerian graduates to contribute to national development through the NYSC scheme.
