MSL Foundation has awarded scholarships to 30 indigent undergraduates from Ebonyi state, helping them pursue their education at various universities across the country. Each beneficiary received a cheque for N120,000 at the flag-off of the scholarship scheme in Abakaliki, the state capital.

The foundation emphasized that the initiative was aimed at addressing the lack of education in Abakaliki local government area and improving literacy. During the ceremony, Lebechi Mbam, the founder of MSL Foundation and current Ebonyi State Commissioner for Works, handed over the cheques. He stressed that education is the key to success and urged the students to seize this opportunity for a brighter future.

Mbam, who personally understands the hardships of pursuing an education after losing his father, shared his motivation for starting the scholarship. “The society is becoming tougher every day. When we look at the challenges we face in raising our children, I was motivated because my people lack this education. The only way we can assist the world is to represent God and be an ambassador of Christ, showing love to our brothers and sisters,” he said. He promised that the foundation would continue the program and extend it to other local government areas in Izzi Clan in future editions.

He further explained, “I know that education is the key to everything we do. And as a youth, I believe that by extending this love and laying a foundation for the youth, we can change the course of the future.” Reflecting on his own challenges, he added, “Having passed through some hurdles during my academic session, I lost my father when I was still in school and I know it is all by God’s grace. I didn’t enjoy this benefit, but God saw me through, and now it’s necessary for me to give back to those who are willing to go to school but lack the funds.”

The scholarship initiative was also praised by notable figures, including Mrs. Mary-Maudline Nwifuru, wife of the state governor, and other dignitaries such as Mbam Ogodo, Chairman of the scholarship foundation, and Ben Odo, the State Attorney General. They commended Mbam for his commitment to reducing illiteracy in Abakaliki and encouraged the beneficiaries to make the most of this opportunity to further their education.

Representing the governor’s wife, Prof. Nkechiynyere Echiegu, warned that any student who failed to take their studies seriously would be removed from the scholarship program. She also highlighted the low university enrollment in Abakaliki local government and expressed hope that the scholarship would help address this issue.

One of the scholarship recipients, John Okechukwu, a medical student struggling with tuition fees, expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity. “I’ve gone through a lot trying to raise funds for my tuition and almost gave up. But now, thanks to this scholarship, I can continue my education,” he said. “I promise to use this opportunity wisely and make Mbam proud. He is my savior.”
