No fewer than 100 students from tertiary institutions across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria have benefited from the maiden edition of the scholarship initiative by the SOHCAHTOA Foundation.
The initiative, in its contribution to the growth of education in Nigeria and Africa, received 18,000 applications, from which the winners were selected.
Speaking at the inaugural scholarship award ceremony in Lagos on Saturday, the co-founder of the foundation, Mrs Solape Fayemi, said “The foundation is expanding its service beyond empowerment.
“This year, the maiden edition has 100 beneficiaries from over 18,000 applicants across the six geopolitical zones. We are looking forward to doing more in the next academic year.”
She said each of the beneficiaries would receive N250,000 annually for tuition until they finished their respective programmes.
She added that the foundation believed in helping the young ones to fulfil their dreams and becoming a better person in their society.
“The government alone cannot do it, private organisations can come in and support our society. Let’s use our resources to affect our society positively,” she added.
The initiator said the beneficiaries must have good grades and produce their respective results at the end of each academic session to renew the scholarship award.
