Ugwu Chibuzo Augustus, a Nigerian “pure water” seller has achieved a remarkable feat by securing a coveted full scholarship to university after excelling in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
This incredible achievement came after Chibuzo scored an impressive 309 in the UTME, catapulting him into the spotlight for his exceptional academic prowess despite his challenging background.
Alex Onyia, the founder of Educare, a local organization dedicated to preparing UTME candidates, shared the uplifting story behind Chibuzo’s journey to success.
Chibuzo, who had to leave school two years ago due to financial constraints, had been earning a living by selling “pure water” on the streets.
Recognising his potential, Educare approached Chibuzo with an enticing proposition: join their UTME preparation programme with a promise of a scholarship if he achieved a score exceeding 300.
Undeterred by his circumstances, Chibuzo embraced the challenge wholeheartedly, attending classes diligently while continuing to sell pure water after school hours.
His determination and hard work paid off when the UTME results were announced, revealing his outstanding aggregate score of 309.
Throughout the preparation period, Chibuzo consistently performed well in monthly assessments, proving his commitment and aptitude for academic excellence. Now, with his exceptional UTME performance, Chibuzo has been awarded a full scholarship by Educare, paving the way for him to pursue higher education and fulfill his aspirations.
