The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina, has given his approval for the construction of a modern building-complex for the Faculty of Law at the university.
The multi-million naira structure will house the Office of the Dean, various departments, offices of the HODs, and lecture-rooms for all law-based courses.
During the announcement of the approval, the VC also expressed his gratitude towards the immediate past Chairman of Body of Benchers in Nigeria, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), for his immense contribution towards the successful take-off of the faculty, its accreditation and continuous growth. Fasina also recognized Chief Olanipekun’s determination to assist the growth of the faculty, especially his generous acceptance to be a Visiting Law Professor to the university to teach students pro-bono.
FUOYE has the distinction of being the only university out of the nine established by former President Goodluck Jonathan that has established a law faculty and runs law programmes.
As part of the university’s efforts to ensure a standard of excellence and produce lawyers capable of offering global best practices, the law library is one of the best in the Nigerian university system, stocked with current and standard law books and journals.
It also has a functional moot court and law clinic, which won a grant of N500,000 in 2021 from NULEC.
The completion of the new building is expected to reduce stress among students and lecturers while promoting efficiency and improving performances.
