The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General YD Ahmed, has urged organizations employing Corps Members to enhance their welfare packages to boost productivity and mitigate the impact of the current economic situation.
General Ahmed made this appeal during a courtesy visit by the Acting Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), CG Sylvester Nwakuche, at the NYSC headquarters in Abuja.
Commending the NCoS for its role in rehabilitating inmates, Ahmed highlighted the contributions of Corps Members, particularly Corps Lawyers under the Legal Aid Community Development Service (CDS) group, who have been providing free legal assistance to inmates, securing freedom for many.
In his remarks, CG Nwakuche, who recalled his own service year in Kaduna, praised the NYSC’s deployment policy for fostering national unity and integration. He emphasized the need for greater collaboration between both agencies to enhance service delivery in correctional centers.
The Acting Controller General requested the deployment of Corps Doctors, Psychologists, Lawyers, and other professionals to strengthen the manpower of the correctional service. General Ahmed welcomed the proposal, reaffirming the NYSC’s commitment to national development through strategic partnerships.
This renewed collaboration is expected to enhance the correctional system while providing Corps Members with valuable professional experience.
