The Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) has announced the 2024 African Youth Storytelling Contest, inviting young Africans to share their visions for regenerating landscapes, protecting biodiversity, leading climate action, and safeguarding livelihoods. This contest harnesses the transformative power of storytelling to inspire global action and foster cross-border connections.
Benefits:
The top 5 to 10 entries will gain significant exposure by being featured on the GLF website and social media channels, and showcased at the GLF Africa 2024 Hybrid Conference, reaching thousands of attendees both in person and online. Additionally, the three best stories will be awarded monetary prizes of EUR 500, 300, and 200 respectively, providing a platform for young storytellers to share their talent with a global audience.
Eligibility:
The contest is open to individuals aged 18 to 35 who are either born in Africa, currently living in Africa, or part of the African diaspora. This broad eligibility criterion aims to capture diverse perspectives and narratives from across the continent and its global community.
Submission Formats:
Submissions are welcomed in a variety of creative formats, reflecting the contest’s theme. These include visual arts and animation (such as paintings, sculptures, drawings, and photography), video (including short films, interviews, documentaries, and performance art), and audio (such as original poetry, music, and podcasts). Other creative media that effectively convey the story’s message are also encouraged.
Application process:
Applicants must include their full name, city or town, and country in their submissions. If the submission is associated with an organization, the organization’s logo should be included. For entries in languages other than English, an English transcript must be provided in the application form. This ensures accessibility and understanding across the diverse judging panel.
