A Lagos-based teacher, Oyih Deborah Abosede, known as Intentional Teacher, has celebrated her 40th birthday.

The celebration took place at the weekend, at Sigmabase Hall, Victoria Island.

The event featured the launch of her book titled “My Homeschooling Journey: Chronicle of an Intentional Teacher.”

During the event, Debbie elaborated on the misunderstood concept of homeschooling, particularly among those who practice it.

She highlighted that many parents who do not embrace homeschooling fear that it may lead to social isolation for their children, emphasising the importance of socialisation.

She also emphasised that learning can occur anywhere.

Debbie encouraged parents to consider homeschooling and get a copy of her book to gain a deeper understanding of the concept.

Abigael Taiwo, Debbie’s younger sister, praised her as an experienced teacher who offers solutions to academic challenges faced by students.

A panel discussion led by Chineze Adeleye focused on homeschooling, its advantages, and the role of parents.

Juliet Obi, one of the panelists, emphasised that homeschooling essentially starts at home and urged parents to teach their children financial literacy, as schools often don’t cover this crucial aspect.

She stressed that parents must tailor homeschooling to their child’s unique needs.

Tutu Habib, lead tutor and founder of The Palms Tutors, emphasised the significance of parental involvement in homeschooling.
