The Jigawa State government has announced plans to shut down private schools operating without proper registration.
Musa Ya’u, the director of private schools in the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, revealed the initiative in a statement made on Monday in Dutse.
Mr. Ya’u emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that all private educational institutions comply with legal requirements.
“We have set up a committee to visit all private schools across the state and collect their annual registration fees,” he stated, highlighting the proactive approach being taken to address the issue.
He further urged school proprietors to ensure that any outstanding debts are settled promptly. “The ministry team will visit private schools to ensure debts are settled,” he added, signaling a zero-tolerance stance towards non-compliance.
In a stern warning to unregistered institutions, Mr. Ya’u advised, “Private schools operating without approval from the ministry should do so before the team’s arrival.” He also noted that any school that has commenced junior or senior sections without official upgrading from the ministry would face closure.
The director confirmed that the ministry has already informed the association of proprietors of private schools about the impending inspections, which are set to commence on October 28. This initiative aims not only to enforce compliance but also to enhance the quality of education provided in the state.
