Osun State Ministry of Education has ordered the immediate closure of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree directing all the staff members and students of the institution to proceed on a two-week break with immediate effect.

According to a statement announcing the development through the Commissioner of Education, Hon. Dipo Eluwole on Thursday, September 7, 2023, (today) the school accounts have been frozen with immediate effect.

The announcement noted that the immediate break was ordered to maintain peace in the institution following the ‘forceful’ return of the suspended Rector of the institution, Dr Tajudeen Odetayo.

The announcement reads in full; “This is to inform the general public, particularly members of staff and students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, to proceed on two (2) weeks break with immediate effect. The immediate break is a necessary action to maintain peace in the institution following the forceful return of the suspended Rector, Dr. T.A. Odetayo.”

“The general public should also note that school accounts have been frozen with immediate effect, and it is imperative that everyone cooperates fully and adheres to these directives.”
I thank you.

NEB had reported how Odetayo resumed office today following the order of the court granting the rule for his status quo to remain pending the outcome of the court decision on the suit.

It will be recalled that Odetayo had headed to court challenging his suspension as the rector of the institution by the State Government.

Odetayo who was suspended under the allegation of corruption, misuse of office and others was replaced by an acting rector, Mr Kehinde Alabi.

However, Alabi’s appointment as the acting rector of the institution faced a series of protests by the Academic Staff Union Of Polytechnic, who stated that Alabi didn’t qualify for the post, while also accusing the Governor, Ademola Adeleke of practising nepotism by appointing a man from his home town to the post after raising baseless allegations against the suspended rector.
