Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved the promotion of 20,542 primary and junior secondary school teachers as well as non-teaching staff.
The Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board, Yusuf Kabir, announced this during a meeting with education secretaries, heads of personnel and EMIS officers held at SBMC Hall, SUBEB headquarters in Kano.
This was contained in a statement by Deputy Director Public Relations, Balarabe Jazuli.
Yusuf said the implementation of the promotion was to boost the morale of staff.
“The governor directed the board to implement the promotion immediately to ensure that they are paid immediately,” the statement read.
The SUBEB chairman urged the beneficiaries to rededicate themselves to their duties as he avowed the commitment of the Yusuf administration to prioritizing education in the state.
He enjoined community leaders, Islamic clerics, and related organisations to sensitize parents on the importance of enrolling their children in school.
The government has also announced plans to begin the renovation and restoration of the Digital Industrial Park, which was looted and damaged during the nationwide EndBadGovernance protest on August 1, 2024.
The Deputy Governor, Aminu Gwarzo, disclosed this on Monday during the visit of the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijjani.
Gwarzo condemned the vandalism, calling it a setback to the state’s digital development and Nigeria’s broader technological aspirations.
He extended the government’s sympathies to the Ministry and assured that measures were being taken to renovate the place.
He noted that security agencies, with the support of local community leaders, had recovered a significant portion of the stolen equipment.
Gwarzo said the governor directed the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the damage and initiate repairs promptly.
“We are committed to ensuring that this crucial facility is fully operational again as soon as possible,” he said.
