Kwara State, in collaboration with the University of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom, is offering training to 160 teachers in peace and security strategies to enhance the safety of schools across the state.
The training, part of the Education for Peace and Security Initiative (EPSI), aims to equip educators with the knowledge to foster a secure learning environment in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions.
The programme, which was launched in Ilorin, was organized by the Office of the Governor’s Wife and the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development. Dr. Manu Lekunzeco, Co-Lead of EPSI and a lecturer at Aberdeen University, highlighted the partnership’s focus on promoting peace and security in schools. “This training is designed to create safer educational spaces by providing teachers with the tools to address security challenges,” Lekunzeco said.
The initiative is also supported by Citizens Common Advocacy International, marking a significant step towards improving school security in Kwara.
