The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has awarded a contract worth N1.1 billion for the construction of a 250-seater Virtual Examination Centre (VEC) at Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH), Iseyin Campus.
In a letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor of LAUTECH, the NCC Chairman, Professor Adeolu Akande, disclosed that the organisation is preparing to commission the N1 billion IT hub it constructed at the University of Ibadan before the end of May 2023.
The Virtual Examination Centre will feature building infrastructure to accommodate 250 workstations, 250 computers and furniture, server infrastructures, printers and scanners, power peripherals, air conditioners, a 200KVA generator, VSAT equipment, local area networks (LAN), and one-year bandwidth subscription for internet access.
Akande further stated that the construction is expected to be completed within six to nine months.
The development of the Virtual Examination Centre aligns with the NCC’s commitment to improving digital access and promoting innovation in the education sector. The Centre will provide LAUTECH with the necessary infrastructure to conduct online examinations, ensuring that students have access to a safe and secure environment to take their exams. It will also serve as a hub for digital learning, enabling the university to expand its course offerings and enhance the quality of education provided to students.
