Over 59,000 secondary school students who missed the first and second rounds of exams for various reasons, including post-electoral protests, will take special final exams between January 20 and 24, 2025.
The special exams aim to ensure that no student is disadvantaged during the current academic year. The province of Maputo, particularly Matola and Boane, reported the highest absentee rates for the two prior exam sessions and will thus host the largest number of special exam boards.
The Ministry of Education and Human Development will soon publish the special exam schedule, which will include the terms for registration and lists of students who have not yet been examined.
This information was recently shared by Manuel Simbine, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Education and Human Development. He acknowledged adjustments to the school calendar, initially set to conclude on January 20. The ministry is committed to expediting the correction of exams and the publication of results to allow students to register for 11th grade and universities for the next academic year in a timely manner.
Simbine also mentioned the possibility of adjusting the registration calendar to accommodate the academic year of 2025, which is scheduled to begin on January 31. He expressed confidence in teachers’ participation in the special exam process, noting that they are now receiving payment for overtime—a key source of discontent among educators over the past two years.
It is noteworthy that more than 800,000 students were scheduled for evaluation under this education subsystem in the current year.
