The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has stepped into the growing controversy surrounding the leadership of the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, in Oyo State.
The rights group has called for an end to what it describes as a baseless campaign of calumny against the institution’s pioneer rector, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul Hameed.
In a press statement issued on Monday, December 30, 2024, MURIC Executive Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, strongly condemned accusations of nepotism, religious bias, and lack of transparency leveled against the rector. Akintola labeled the allegations as “unfounded” and suggested they stem from vested interests upset by the rector’s insistence on due process, particularly in the awarding of contracts.
“Monumental Progress Despite Challenges”
Professor Akintola highlighted the rapid development the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, has achieved under Engr. Abdul Hameed’s leadership since its establishment in February 2021.
“Our findings reveal that the allegations leveled against the rector are baseless, unfounded, and without any evidence whatsoever. Contrary to these false claims, the Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, has made monumental progress within such a short period under Engr. Abdul Hameed,” Akintola stated.
He detailed numerous achievements, including the completion of 23 projects funded through capital allocations and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), as well as the completion of four projects donated by philanthropists. Akintola noted these accomplishments as evidence of the rector’s credibility and the public’s trust in his leadership.
“Visible Contributions to the Institution”
The press statement listed significant procurements and infrastructure developments spearheaded by the rector, such as:
3 Toyota Hilux vehicles and 2 utility vehicles.
A 500KVA transformer with feeder pillars and cables.
30KVA solar energy equipment with 48 panels and 24 batteries.
40 laptops and 40 desktop computers.
An ongoing storey-building library complex.
Akintola described these initiatives as rare achievements for a young institution yet to generate substantial internal funds.
“Baseless Allegations and Dirty Tactics”
The MURIC director dismissed the accusations as distractions driven by envy and a desire to secure contracts without adhering to due process.
“There is no scintilla of ambiguity that Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul Hameed is a performer with indubitable pedigree. His fake whistle-blowers are out to smear his good reputation,” Akintola declared.
He urged staff and stakeholders of the polytechnic to maintain the inter-religious harmony the institution has enjoyed since its inception, warning against those attempting to incite discord for personal gain.
MURIC appealed to the Federal Ministry of Education to disregard the allegations and continue supporting the rector’s efforts.
“We urge the people of Osun and Oyo states to stop the campaign of calumny against the rector, Engr. Dr. Taofeek Adekunle Abdul Hameed,” Akintola concluded.
