Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has assured the National Union of Teachers (NUT) that his administration will take decisive steps to address the critical shortage of classroom teachers in public primary and secondary schools in the state. The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by a delegation from the NUT, led by Comrade Victor Oladele Amoko, Chairman of the NUT in Ondo State and the Nigeria Labour Congress.

Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized his dedication to realizing the educational aspirations of both teachers and students. “We will take decisive steps to address the acute shortage of teachers in our primary schools, ensuring the stability and quality of education,” he declared, underscoring the urgency of the matter.

During the meeting, the Governor acknowledged various issues raised by the teachers, including the reintroduction of running grants to schools, enhancement of school infrastructure, appointment of Headmasters General for primary schools, extension of age and service years for teachers, and provision of instructional materials. He assured the NUT that his administration would critically examine and address these concerns.

In addition to the teacher shortage, Governor Aiyedatiwa recognized the significance of technical education and pledged his commitment to revitalizing technical training. He expressed his administration’s readiness to tackle related challenges and ensure the overall improvement of the education sector in the state.

The Governor concluded the meeting by expressing gratitude to the NUT leaders for their partnership and reaffirming his commitment to advancing education as a catalyst for development in Ondo State.

The commitment to addressing teacher shortages and enhancing the education sector reflects the Governor’s proactive stance toward prioritizing the development of human capital and ensuring a robust educational foundation for the state’s future generations.
