Sex for Mark, a Thing of the Past

Aliu The Rector, Federal Polytechnic Auchi in Edo State, Dr Momodu Sanusi Jimah has said sex for marks and sorting of lecturers by students in the school has become a thing of the past but that on the contrary, lecturers are now dragging students to management for attempting to compromise them. Speaking to journalists on the school’s coming convocation ceremonies, Jimah said 245 students would be graduating with distinctions in the 2017/2018 session adding that graduates of the school can defend their grades anywhere in the world. He said; “The issues of sex for marks and sorting of lecturers are no longer there because recently, we have four cases on my table where four lecturers have reported students who attempted to influence them and the students on their own expelled themselves because they were invited to appear before a panel. For the first time in the history of this school, four students were reported by lecturers trying to influence them. The issues of sex for marks, higher grade have been put to an end. We have achieved not less than 95 per cent of that.” He said part of the convocation ceremony would also be commissioning of completed projects just as he said 28,000 students would graduate during the convocation which he said would cover two sessions; 2016/2017 and 2017/2018. Sanusi said his administration has enjoyed a robust relationship with the staff unions since he came on board he has made their welfare a priority part of which has been the payment of arrears and allowances and salaries owed to staff. “The school is large, it is the biggest polytechnic in South-South Nigeria and I say it is about the biggest polytechnic in Southern Nigeria, we have a very large number of studentship and our staff is good. We were recently rated number polytechnic in Nigeria so you know that this is a destination for candidates who want to get polytechnic education. Our students can hold their own anytime and anywhere in the world and I stand challenged because our distinction students merit it.”
