Sokoto State commissioner for finance, Alhaji Jabbi Shagari, has sponsored 50 girls to study for the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and degree programmes at the National Teachers’ Institute Shagari Centre.

The commissioner, who disclosed this, said the decision was part of his desire to promote girl-child education to tertiary level.

He said another set of 25 students were also sponsored to study at various tertiary institutions of learning.

Of the number, according to him, 10 of the students would pursue engineering courses, while 15 others will study other courses.

He urged the students to concentrate on the studies to justify the sponsorship.

Shagari reiterated his commitment to ensure that more qualified students further their education, especially the girl-child.
