The first Technical University, Ibadan, Oyo State, has completed its first semester examination and resumed for the second semester despite the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

While disclosing this in a statement on Thursday July 23, 2020, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ayobami Salami, said the university enjoyed the benefit of its digitised system, which has been on since 2017.

Salami noted that as soon as the students were sent home in March, in line with the government’s directive that all schools be closed, Tech-U strengthened its e-lecture platform.

He added that the process was seamless.

“The lectures continued online in April through May.

“There wasn’t much problem because both the lecturers and students are used to the process,” he said.

“We run on Moodle as our learning management system, with the smart boards that make the delivery and feedback integrated.

“Of course, there were bound to be some hitches at the beginning, as the students were now scattered in different parts of the country, with attendant challenges of phone network and power supply.

“But as time went on, most of them found a way around the issues,” he added.

He stated that a mock examination was conducted to prepare the students and validate the process itself.

He added that over 90 per cent of students participated in the main online examination.

“We conducted a supplementary exam to accommodate those who missed the exam or part of it for one reason or the other,” Salami said.
