President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna, a major stride towards addressing the region’s educational and developmental challenges.
Vice President Kashim Shettima announced the approval over the weekend during a condolence visit to the Kukah family in Kamuru, Zangon Kataf, following the death of His Highness Yohanna Sidi Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom.
Shettima disclosed that discussions are also underway to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State. “With Senator Katung and the member of the House of Representatives, we have reached out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and he has consented to the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna,” he said, according to a statement issued by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications.
The Vice President reiterated the administration’s commitment to developing Southern Kaduna, highlighting the appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff as evidence of President Tinubu’s attention to the region’s security needs. “Be rest assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the people of Kaduna and the people of Southern Kaduna at heart,” Shettima affirmed.
Shettima also lauded Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, for his inclusive governance, emphasizing the federal government’s collaboration with the state to improve road infrastructure and ensure development reaches all parts of Southern Kaduna.
In response, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, speaking on behalf of the Kukah family, expressed gratitude for the visit and the government’s support. “I want to thank you on behalf of this family. Thank you for being with us. You can see the nature of the place in which we live. The road is largely broken. I know you will remain a friend of this Ikulu nation and a friend of this community. We are honoured to have you,” the Bishop remarked.
The announcement has been welcomed as a sign of renewed federal attention to the region’s educational and infrastructural needs.
