A mysterious illness has reportedly led to the death of five students at the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero (KSUSTA), sparking fear among students and staff.

Sources within the university revealed that four students died last week, with another fatality recorded on Sunday.
While officials have yet to determine the cause, students have raised concerns about the situation.

Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) visited the university for a meningitis awareness campaign, but it remains unclear if the disease is linked to the deaths.

The university’s registrar, Maimaru Alhaji Tilli, confirmed four of the deaths but admitted that the cause is still unknown.

He also highlighted overcrowding in student accommodations as a pressing issue. The university has sought permission from the Ministry of Higher Education to temporarily shut down, though approval is still pending.

In response to the crisis, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) has urged the administration to close the school immediately to prevent further casualties.
