The University of Lagos (UNILAG) is set to host its fifty-fourth (54th) Convocation Ceremonies, showcasing a series of events starting from January 15, 2024.

The programme includes a Pre-Concocation Press Conference by Vice-Chancellor Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola, Jumat Service, Convocation Rehearsals, Exhibition & Project Commissioning, Convocation Lecture, and several award ceremonies.

On January 15, the Convocation Lecture titled “Decolonizing African Higher Education for Transformational Development” will be delivered by Prof. Toyin Falola from The University of Texas At Austin. The convocation spans three days, with each day dedicated to awarding degrees to graduates from specific faculties and institutes.

A highlight of the event is the Convocation Play on January 18, featuring “The Midnight Hotel” by Femi Osofisan in musical form. Additionally, a Long Service Award will be held on January 19, followed by a Thanksgiving Service on January 21.

For participating students, there are mandatory payments for convocation ceremonies, along with the purchase or hiring of academic outfits. The payment procedure involves generating payment advice from the student portal and using Remita for transactions. Academic outfits, invitation cards, and order of proceedings can be collected from designated locations with evidence of payment.

Graduating students are urged to return their academic outfits promptly after the ceremonies to avoid additional costs. Certificates can be collected immediately after the convocation ceremonies, but any uncollected certificates will incur demurrage charges.

Alumni are required to pay registration fees into the UNILAG Alumni Association Accounts. Additionally, graduating students must register for attendance at the ceremonies through a provided link sent to their email addresses.

The Ag. Registrar & Secretary to Council, Olakunle E. Makinde (Mrs.), congratulates all graduating students and assures them that certificates will be ready for collection post-ceremonies.
