The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) organises yearly is a Nigerian entrance examination, for prospective undergraduates seeking admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
JAMB was established in 1978 to centralise the admissions process and reduce the burden of multiple entrance exams for students seeking admission into higher institutions in Nigeria.
The board is also responsible for conducting other exams, including the Direct Entry (DE) and the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). The UTME is usually conducted annually, and it tests the candidates’ knowledge in four subjects: English Language, and three other subjects relevant to the candidate’s chosen course of study.
