Nigerian Breweries Plc-Felix Ohiwerei Trust Fund has announced the extension for the submission of entries for the 2024 Maltina Teacher of the Year competition. The deadline for the competition which was initially slated to end on Friday, July 19, 2024, has now been extended to Friday, August 2, 2024, to give room for more participants.
Speaking on the rationale behind the new development, the Corporate Affairs Director, Nigerian Breweries Plc, Mrs. Sade Morgan revealed that the decision to extend the deadline came as a result of calls by teachers asking for more time to apply and submit their entries for the competition.
To participate, eligible teachers can visit the dedicated website here to complete the entry form online. Alternatively, they can download the form, complete it, scan it, and email to maltinateacheroftheyear@heineken.com.
She disclosed that the 10th edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year competition is open to all secondary school teachers in both public and private schools in Nigeria adding that the competition remains an effective intervention program focused on recognizing the contribution of teachers to the education sector in Nigeria.
She encouraged eligible teachers who have met all the requirements in both public and private secondary schools to make use of the opportunity afforded by this extension to apply for the competition.
She further noted that the overall winner for the 2024 edition will receive a trophy, a cash prize of N10 million, and a capacity development training opportunity abroad while his/her school will receive either a block of classrooms or a computer laboratory.
“The first runner-up of the competition will equally receive a trophy and a total sum of N3,000,000, while the second runner-up receives a trophy and a total sum of N2,500,000. All State Champions will be rewarded with recognition plaques and a cash prize of N1,000,000 each,” she added.
The Maltina Teacher of the Year competition was established in 2015 and funded through the Nigerian Breweries-Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, which was set up in 1994 to facilitate an active contribution to the development of the education sector in Nigeria in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal, SDG No.4.
Since inception, the Maltina Teacher of the Year competition has produced eight grand prize winners in different states across the country: Rose Nkemdilim Obi, Anambra State (2015), Imoh Essien, Akwa Ibom State (2016), Felix Ariguzo, Delta State (2017), Olasunkanmi Opeifa, FCT (2018), Ezem Collins, FCT (2019), Oluwabunmi Anani, Adamawa State (2020), Abanika Taiye, Delta State (2021), Alaku Ayiwulu, Plateau State (2022) and Adeola Adefemi. Lagos State (2023).
