A doctorate students and University of Lagos alumnus, Ifeloju Olusanya, has been honored with the prestigious Martin Weaver Scholarship Award. As a current PhD student at the University of Kansas, he received this accolade during the Association for Preservation Technology (APT) International Conference in 2023, held in the United States.
This award recognises Olusanya’s exceptional research contributions in the field of historic preservation. His research efforts have extended the understanding of heritage by emphasising inclusivity in architecture and historic preservation. In particular, his work sheds light on the cultural heritage of marginalised groups.
At the conference, Olusanya presented his research titled “Perspectives on the Potential of Heritage-led Development as an Agent of Sustainable Change in the Historic Core of Badagry, Lagos State, Nigeria, Africa,” within the cultural heritage track.
The Martin Weaver Student Scholarship is designed to support and advance the careers of young professionals in the early stages of their Historic Preservation/Conservation journey. It offers opportunities for these budding experts to conduct innovative research and explore foreign travel as part of their academic pursuits.
