The Lagos State Police Command has exhumed the body of Adedamola Ogunbode, a 28-year-old Political Science Education graduate of Lagos State University (LASU), who had been missing since January 16, 2025.

Ogunbode’s remains were found buried in a shallow grave behind the LASU fence in its Ojo Campus, following an intense police investigation that led to the arrest of four suspects, while authorities continue the search for four others linked to the crime.

According to police reports, the suspects allegedly emptied the deceased’s bank account and shared the money among themselves before disposing of his body.

Speaking at the site of the exhumation, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the breakthrough came after one of the arrested suspects led officers to the burial location.

“The case began as a missing person report filed at the Ojo Police Division on January 16. However, after the new Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, assumed office on February 18, he ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case,” Hundeyin explained.

“This led to the arrest of one of the key suspects, who not only confessed to the murder but also directed us to where the victim was buried,” he added.

The police have vowed to bring all those involved to justice.

“Now that we have recovered the body, the investigation is nearing completion. However, we will not rest until we arrest the remaining suspects,” Hundeyin assured.

He also offered condolences to the Ogunbode family, stating that justice will be served and the suspects will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Meanwhile, the police have sealed off a church linked to one of the arrested suspects after intelligence reports suggested a possible arson attack in retaliation.

“We received information that some individuals were planning to burn down the church, and we took preventive action to ensure that does not happen,” Hundeyin revealed.

The shocking case has sparked widespread outrage among LASU students, lecturers, and Ojo residents, many of whom gathered at the exhumation site alongside police officers, health workers, and local government officials.

Authorities have assured the public of a thorough investigation and swift prosecution of all those involved in Ogunbode’s tragic and gruesome murder.
