Babajide Macaulay
Babajide M. Macaulay, PhD, is a native of Lagos State, Nigeria; an Academic and an Educational Consultant. He is a 150 Fellow of the Royal Commonwealth Society, Non-Resident Fellow of the Nigerian Global Affairs Council (NiGAC), a 2021 Carrington Youth Fellow, and a 2022 Open Africa Power (OAP) Fellow.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree with First-class (Hons.) in Biology from the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) in 2010. Then went on to win the highly prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship twice to fund his Master’s degree (Distinction) in Sustainable Environmental Management from the Natural Resources Institute (NRI), University of Greenwich, UK and a PhD degree in Environmental Geochemistry and Geomicrobiology from the University of Manchester, UK. He currently lectures in the Department of Biology (Environmental Biology and Public Health Unit) at FUTA, where he teaches Environment-related courses to both Undergraduate and Masters students.
In 2018, Macaulay founded iLLUMANIA (www.illumania.org), an online educational consulting outfit, where he provides a wide range of academic support to students, graduates and business professionals, including academic scholarships. In the last 4 years, iLLUMANIA has produced over 200 MSc/PhD scholarship winners from Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Kenya, Botswana and South Africa; attracting about US$9 Million in scholarship benefits. This feat earned him the Royal African Leadership Award in 2021, presented by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, and Nigeria’s Federal Minister of Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare.
In late 2021, he created, “Wadi”, a startup that connects African researchers to the resources they need to drive R&D in Africa (www.wadi.africa). In July 2022, Wadi was adjudged the most innovative startup at the Nigerian University of Technology and Management (NUTM) Startup competition, winning the prize of N2.5M. By the end of 2022, Wadi had amassed an additional N12.6M in grant from angel/impact investors.
Babajide also recently won the Hyperion Scholarship (worth $10,000) to pursue a virtual Executive MBA programme at the Quantic School of Business and Technology, USA, to improve his business knowledge.
