The Federal Government has reiterated its dedication to strengthening support for girl-child education and empowerment, with the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmed, reaffirming this commitment during a road walk in Abuja yesterday.

The event marked the unveiling of Madubi, a campaign under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Employment (AGILE) programme, designed to improve secondary education access for girls across Nigeria.

Derived from the Hausa word for “mirror,” *Madubi* seeks to raise public awareness and drive action toward advancing girl-child education. Speaking at the event, Ahmed emphasized the vital role of education in national development and assured that more initiatives would be introduced to sustain the momentum.

“We support every programme that seeks to empower the girl-child,” she stated. “At the Federal Ministry of Education, we have our own programme that we are going to launch soon to ensure that we empower the girl-child.”

Ahmed praised the AGILE programme for providing educational and economic opportunities for girls, describing it as a significant step toward ensuring their full participation in society.

“AGILE is wonderful in terms of giving opportunity to the girl-child by providing access and opportunity for the girl-child to flourish in our society,” she said. “We hope to see other programmes that will ensure every girl-child has the opportunity to reach her full potential.”

The minister noted that the road walk symbolized a reflection of hope, encouraging young girls to envision themselves in successful Nigerian women who have overcome barriers through education and empowerment.
