FUTMinna graduates 5,826 students, 119 earn first-class honors

The Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMinna) has conferred degrees on 5,826 students for the 2023–2024 academic session, with 119 of them earning First-Class honors.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Faruk Kuta announced this during a pre-convocation media briefing at the university’s permanent site in Gidan Kwanu, Minna. He also revealed that deserving Nigerians would be awarded Honorary Doctorate Degrees as part of the convocation activities.

Breaking down the graduating numbers, Kuta disclosed that 4,955 students earned Bachelor’s degrees, 632 completed Master’s degrees, 105 received Postgraduate Diplomas, and 124 were awarded PhDs. Providing further details on the undergraduate classifications, he stated, “To separate the grains from the chaff, the undergraduate degree is categorized into classes: 2nd Class Upper – 1,431; Second Class Lower – 2,341; Third Class – 972; and Pass – 92. As a tradition of the university, the graduands will collect original copies of their certificates immediately after the occasion. Also, they will be able to collect students’ copies of the transcript.”

Highlighting key achievements under his administration, Kuta emphasized FUTMinna’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge education. “The university has introduced 13 academic programmes which align with contemporary societal needs and global competitiveness,” he said. Among the newly accredited courses by the National Universities Commission (NUC) are Data Software, Software Engineering, Public Health, Forestry and Wildlife Technology, Forensic Science, Industrial Mathematics, Metrology, Interior Design, Furniture Design, Landscape Architecture, Food Engineering, Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and Agribusiness.

As part of events leading up to the convocation, FUTMinna will host a scientific research exhibition at the Suleiman Kumo Convocation Square on the main campus starting Thursday, January 30.
