Isa Dahiru, an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, has clinched the prestigious “Assistive Tech Thematic Area” Category Award at the highly acclaimed “2023 NCC Talent Hunt Research Through Hackathon.” Hailing from Awuyo LG in Jigawa State, Isa’s innovative creation, the “SMART BLADDER,” has earned him the coveted 1st position medal and a generous cash prize of N10 million courtesy of NCC.
Isa’s inventive solution, the “SMART BLADDER,” is a wearable device designed to manage urinary incontinence among the elderly, enhancing their quality of life while reducing daily expenses and maintaining personal hygiene. The device incorporates an artificial intelligence-powered bioactivated sensor that controls the opening and closing of the bladder’s sphincter. This cutting-edge technology prevents untimely urination incidents by sending signals to the brain, indicating when the bladder needs emptying.
Equipped with organic copper electrodes, in-silico simulated receptor cells, and advanced microchip technology, the “Smart Bladder” is a user-friendly and revolutionary device. Upon contact with the user’s skin, the bioactivated sensors trigger impulses to sensitise overactive bladders, allowing normal micturition reflex.
Isa Dahiru’s remarkable achievement showcases the incredible ingenuity of Nigerians and their potential to contribute significantly to the nation’s economy. This innovative solution holds the promise of industrialising the concept, paving the way for a brighter future in Nigerian innovation.
