Dr Nsikak Akpan, a lecturer at Foreign Links College of Health Technology in Moro, Osun State, has successfully completed 100 hours of a planned 150-hour marathon lecture. This ambitious undertaking aims to set a new world record for the longest lecture duration.
Starting on September 20, the event has drawn significant attention, with Dr Akpan having received approval from the Guinness World Records for this extraordinary challenge. Currently, the record for the longest marathon lecture is held by Indian Professor Arvin Mishra, who delivered a lecture lasting 139 hours, 52 minutes, and 42 seconds in 2014.
Dr Akpan’s marathon lecture, themed “Relationships between man’s environment and health,” seeks to engage students on critical health topics. Each session lasts four hours, followed by a brief 20-minute break. As he delivered his lecture on mental health, Dr Akpan highlighted the crucial connection between environmental factors and individual well-being.
He explained, “The mental health of a man is a product of different things, most especially his environmental and spiritual well-being. The environment by which someone works has a direct effect on his health.”
As the event progresses, it not only showcases Dr Akpan’s commitment to education but also serves as an inspiration to students and the broader academic community, demonstrating the impact of perseverance and passion in the pursuit of knowledge.
