The Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has expressed concern over a significant number of students unable to recite the University Anthem from memory. This came to light at the Opening Ceremony of the Lagos State University (LASU) Directorate of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship Annual Exhibition/Fair on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
Expressing disappointment, the Vice Chancellor has issued a directive mandating all Deans of the Faculties and Schools to communicate to lecturers within their respective academic units. The directive instructs lecturers to lead students in reciting the LASU Anthem at the commencement of each lecture.
This proactive step is aimed at fostering a sense of university pride and unity among the student body. It underscores the importance of students being familiar with the university anthem, aligning with the institution’s commitment to academic excellence and holistic development.
The directive, conveyed for widespread awareness, signals a concerted effort by the university administration to instill a stronger connection between students and the institution’s identity. Immediate compliance is expected from all faculties and schools in adherence to the Vice Chancellor’s directive.
LASU thus reinforces its commitment to nurturing not only academic prowess but also a cohesive and spirited student community.
