Former Nigerian Minister of Education, Obiageli “Oby” Ezekwesili, has expressed her satisfaction with the findings of the Committee set up by the Anambra State Government to investigate the Mmesoma and JAMB Saga. The committee was tasked with conducting an independent investigation into the allegations and providing a comprehensive report on the matter.
Ezekwesili commended the committee for ensuring a fair process and giving Mmesoma an opportunity to present her side of the story. The investigation revealed that Mmesoma’s claim of possessing a genuine result was false and that she personally orchestrated the forgery.
Unlike many cases involving syndicates behind exam malpractices, the committee’s report indicated that Mmesoma acted alone. As a result, Ezekwesili acknowledged the need for consequences to be imposed on Mmesoma as a deterrent to others involved in such systemic exam malpractices within the educational system.
Additionally, Ezekwesili recommended that Mmesoma receive sustained counseling and support from her family, school, and church. This support will assist her in reflecting on the consequences of her actions and making a firm decision to embrace the values of honesty and hard work for the rest of her life.
Ezekwesili hopes that this case will serve as a lesson for pupils, students, parents, guardians, and the wider public in Nigeria. She emphasised the importance of upholding exam integrity as a fundamental aspect of Nigeria’s values and reward system for children and youth.
Ezekwesili expressed her gratitude towards JAMB for their efforts in dealing with the case and encouraged the Registrar and his team to continue their critical service to the country. She called for a collective commitment to raising awareness about exam integrity in Nigeria, highlighting its significance for the future of the nation’s education system.
With the support of key figures like Ezekwesili, it is hoped that the Mmesoma and JAMB Saga will serve as a turning point in Nigeria’s fight against exam malpractices, leading to a renewed dedication to integrity and fairness in the country’s educational institutions.
