Pepsodent has launched a nationwide school awareness campaign to promote healthy oral habits among Nigerian children as part of activities marking World Oral Health Day 2025.
The annual event, celebrated on March 20, aims to equip individuals with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to maintain good oral health, a key factor in overall well-being and quality of life.
During the campaign held at multiple schools in Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government—African Church Primary School, Karaole Primary School, Coker Memorial Primary School, and Ayanleye Memorial Primary School—Pepsodent’s Brand Manager, Mary Akindola, underscored the importance of early oral health education in preventing long-term dental issues. She urged communities and parents to play an active role in ensuring children adopt proper oral hygiene habits from a young age.
“We are here today because we believe good oral hygiene is essential for a healthy future. Unfortunately, many children and young people are at risk of developing oral health issues later in life. Our mission is to spread awareness and equip the next generation with the knowledge and habits they need to maintain excellent oral hygiene,” Akindola stated.
She emphasized the need for children to limit their sugar intake and undergo regular dental check-ups, noting that most oral health problems can be prevented by brushing twice daily—morning and night—for at least two minutes.
Reinforcing this message, Afomre Ubogu, Internal Communications Manager at Unilever Nigeria Plc, highlighted the role of parents, teachers, and other key stakeholders in ensuring children develop and maintain good oral care practices.
The initiative received praise from school authorities, with Oluwayemisi Adebambo, Headteacher of African Church Primary School, speaking on behalf of other headteachers. She commended Unilever Nigeria Plc for the program, stating that it had made a lasting impact on the pupils.
The World Oral Health Day school awareness campaign extended beyond Lagos to Abuja, Enugu, Rivers, and Oyo, covering 52 schools in Lagos State, four schools in Oyo State, five schools in Enugu State, seven schools in Rivers State, and five schools in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. Through this extensive outreach, Pepsodent continues to drive its mission of instilling lifelong oral hygiene habits among young Nigerians.
