Speaking at the ceremony held at the Government House chamber, Aliyu emphasized the crucial role of education in driving development and pledged to tackle challenges affecting adolescent girls. He described the AGILE Project as a game-changer, designed to expand educational access for young girls while equipping them with life skills and financial empowerment opportunities.
Highlighting the significance of the School Improvement Grants, the governor stated that the funds would be used to upgrade school infrastructure, provide Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) facilities, and create a secure learning environment. He urged school administrators to ensure transparency and effective utilization of the funds, stressing that every naira must be used for maximum impact.
Aliyu outlined key achievements under his administration, including the construction of 147 classrooms, the renovation of 142 existing ones, the provision of 208 VIP toilets, and the recruitment of 2,000 new teachers for secondary and nomadic schools. He also announced the reintroduction of the school feeding program in 23 boarding schools, benefiting over 17,000 students, with an annual investment of N680.7 million.
As part of broader efforts to improve education, Aliyu revealed plans to renovate and remodel key institutions, including military and government science schools and girls’ secondary schools. He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to covering external examination fees for final-year students, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder their academic progress.
Expressing appreciation for the support received, the governor thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the World Bank, and other development partners for their contributions to making the AGILE Project a reality.
“We are committed to ensuring inclusive, high-quality education for all children in Sokoto State,” Aliyu assured.
